When still at school I started building bikes. At the same time I started riding cycle speedway and also dirt track riding. Nowadays this would be called mountain bike riding. Followed by riding in time trials.

Racing 54 Years Ago .......................Shropshire Higlands 50 Years Later

When I left school I worked as a cycle mechanic at Rivitts - a top class cycle shop. Whilst working as a cycle mechanic I carried on riding in time trials and competed in circuit and grass track cycle racing.

I spent 2 years National Service in the RAF and only raced twice!

On leaving the RAF I worked for four years in a Shrewsbury bike shop as a cycle mechanic and frame builder. This was followed by working in a local garage which specialized in general car repairs. At the same time I started motor bike trailing and grass track racing.

After leaving the garage I worked as a local builder on general house repairs. At the same time I started rebuilding classic cars.

I then started my own building firm and still continued with motor bike trailing.

Unfortunately due to having major stomach surgery I retired from most of my work.

Once I had recuperated from surgery I started hiring, repairing and building bikes, tricycles and all types of cycles. Subsequently I started riding again. I rode a few races and completed in long distance cycle trials including the Shropshire Highlands and Wild Wales.

I always fancied a car like the 1930s Morgan that I had whilst in the RAF and so I built one!

I am as still as busy as ever - I am still mountain bike riding and road riding and repairing cycles as I approach 70.
